Java on z/OS tends to need huge memory, for example Rational Team Concert recommends Set MAXMMAPAREA to 100000000 Of course your classes could be a lot smaller, but I'd suggest increasing SHMEMMAX by an order of magnitude. If you want to know an exact number, you need tooling such as Sysview.
