Yeah, human level AI on a 360/75 running DOS/360 made me laugh. The issues with Mike are more subtle. I do periodically reread TMIAHM, and find TANSTAAFL to be a useful acronym.

Not sure how old it is. I've had my copy for a very long time. Mainstream, Mike ("The Moon is a Harsh Mistress") is a good read. My favorite RLH book. At one time, long ago, before computers became ubiquitous in science fiction, I was trying to form a collection of science fiction books with computers as one of the main "characters". If you're asking for a citation about whether he read the book or not, I can't provide one - it was just conjecture on my part. Sorry for the mess - I would have used the HTML editor but I haven't posted on IBM-MAIN in forever, just started reading again for "fun" (I'm retired), and I'm unaware of whether HTML messages are discouraged here or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to lists...@listserv.ua.edu with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
