Which leads people to tell me that, e.g., ISPF, can't do things that I have 
been routinely doing for decades.

I must admit, though, that the increased size of some manuals has discouraged 
me from reading the whole thing.

you are correct - it is my error for not reading the pub from cover to
cover - but I would posit that very few technical publications are
read from cover to cover - rather they are read in sections that
pertain to the task at hand.
