In my environment, DFHSM migration and backup tapes are EDM, but my CDS backup HLQ is different and is not EDM controlled but VRS/cataloged controlled and the cds backup tapes are managed by retention date set in the dfhsm parmlib setsys commands. When I do a backvol cds command or the automatic cds backup occurs the tapes are cataloged and retention date controlled by RMM. Research should allow you to do what you are attempting to accomplish.
