Being a fan of C, I would not shy away from pointing out thatread() andwrite() and all variants are not strictly part of the /language/.

I'd be quite interested to hear more about your time doing embedded C. Sounds like fun! Since the advent of SAN support on z/VM, CP has contained parts now written in C. Does that count as "embedded"?
