AFAIR from my days calling IBM support, you have to find the magic words to get
L2 or Dev involved before you can get a real answer.

I would agree that examples-only are not good, but the plain fact is that none
of the C/C++ nor Enterprise COBOL manuals provide examples of how to call C
runtime subroutines/functions from COBOL. The documentation assumptions seem
to be that programmers only need to be able to call COBOL from C, not the other
way around. The COBOL docs seem to be focused on using COBOL OO syntax to call
java from COBOL or vice versa, but maybe I am misreading the intents of those
sections entirely. I really need to find the tuits to do some focused reading.

This is a case (COBOL calling C runtime routines) where significant examples
would be most helpful, along with showing or at least pointing to the
header-defined constants and structures associated with each example call.

Some clever soul needs to write a program to analyze ADATA output from a C
compile step and generate COBOL structures and values from the C ones. SMOP
after all . . . 😊

But beware of relying on examples in lieu of documentation.

I once went to SR with a problem (I supplied the failing example) Rexx:

    ADDRESS ATTCHMVS ASMA90

Tier 1 rejected, saying the manual contained no such example.
