I was thinking of something more ambitious; TCAS, VTIOC and ISPF support for
X11, allowing a user to log on from an X11 server.

Does either TSO or ISPF.prohibit X11? I would imagine that an X11 client
invoked by CALL, BPXBATCN, BPXWUNIX, or SYSCALL spawn would just
work.

Subject to port availability. A forwarded port could be set up with "ssh -Y".

Port forwarding might be a valuable addition to a 3270 emulator; more
useful than IND$FILE.

Modularity. Better to employ an outboard existing editor with Unicode
capability than duplicate the function in one that lacks it. Invoke it
with a prefix command from a member list.
