Ok, let me try this: So I code some OMVS commands under //STDPARM DD *
using code page 37. ISPF knows the CCSID so the data on the screen is
translated to 1047 at submit time, before it gets to BPXBATCH. But,
that translation could only include data in the edit session since ISPF
would have no idea what code page was used for other data needed by the
job. And what happens when this new job needs to be run from CA7 or TWS
with no CCSID available?
Wouldn't it be easier for the user to switch their terminal to 1047
prior to working with USS? That's been the default for the last 20
years in at least one terminal emulator I know of.
