Well I thought I had this. I used Outlook to send a plain text e-mail to a Gmail address and looked at the header. Aha! It had the three lines just like the HTML e-mail except that the middle line was (duh!)
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii"; So I changed my program to send that, confident that it would work. No joy! Still bounced by Gmail for "no header." I am at a loss and about to move on, frankly. As it turns out, the need to send to Gmail was transitory, so I can just finesse the problem for now. If someone else is *sure* of what the fix is I will give it a try; otherwise, I have spent enough of the client's money on this already.
