Thanks Sri, I did not know about SYSSYM=ALLOW. But that raises the question why NOT always allow system symbols in every batch initiator? Allowing them just seems like a no-brainer to me, but then I'm just an application programmer who expects to be able to use all of the available tools to get the job done.
