I think you’ve got two questions, really. The first I can answer: updating the 
microcode on this class of equipment requires a qualified “chaperone," either 
on-site or remote. So I’m afraid you can’t just go to a Web site, grab a 
microcode bundle, and install it.

Assuming no microcode updates there’s a somewhat separate question: “Will it 
work?” based on whatever is already in place. That’s speculative, especially 
from afar. One thing that concerns me is whether the people who removed the 
drives also decided to remove some drive component(s) from the controllers. 
That’d be bad.

Any chance this DS8884 could be powered on and assessed before trying to move 
it?
