We are definitely talking about a LNKLST data set (as only for such data sets would XCFAS have a DSN ENQ). LLA expects LNKLST data sets are cataloged. A LNKLST set can have a data set cataloged only in the master catalog, if the volume is specified directly, but that is unlikely to be the case. So that would lead me to think that the original data set likely is cataloged. Regardless, on their test system, the thing that the OP was missing was (likely) LNKLST UPDATE JOB(*).
