Mike,

Every shop is unique and the memory usage may depend on the workload. IBM
provides a tool(zBNA) to estimate the z15 benefits of your system. If you
are already collecting SMF type-16 records(SMF=FULL) then you can use zBNA tool
to evaluate the benefits.

The IBM Z Batch Network Analyzer (zBNA) provides support for the Integrated
Accelerator for Z Sort. zBNA has a new application, DFSORT Z Sort, which
uniquely identifies DFSORT-eligible candidates and estimates the z15 benefits,
using data from the current environment and does not require a z15. The new
information integrates with the traditional batch information already available
in zBNA. This no-charge tool is available for download from the IBM Techdocs
Library web page.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] z15 DFSORT exploit

Hello all, we are planning to apply maintenance to our z/OS 2.4 system because
we are moving to a z15.

DFSORT exploits the IBM Integrated Accelerator for Z Sort on z15.

This PTF,provides, support for the DFSORT exploitation for the IBM Integrated
Accelerator for Z Sort on z15. In order to enable the new function you must
enable the new function as described in the documentation provided for this
support. Even though the new function is shipped disabled, the enhancements may
affect your existing DFSORT workloads. For example, the load module growth in
SORTLPA and related infrastructure changes affected below-the-line storage
usage which may affect your existing DFSORT workloads. If your DFSORT workloads
restrict below-the-bar storage, you may encounter ICE039A conditions.
This means that you will have to increase the values of parameters limiting the
storage. SIZE/MAINSIZE and REGION are only examples of some but not all of the
possible ways below-the-bar storage can be limited.

With the installation of this PTF there may be a slight increase in the usage
of memory objects, hiperspaces, data spaces, and sort work space even though
the new function is disabled.

My question is: Has anyone applied this maintenance, and if so did you
experience any memory problems after doing so?

Thanks.
