So I'll start by saying, I am very grateful to be offered a job as a mainframe hardware planner. My previous experience is network cable infrastructure (commercial building cabling/data closets). I passed my AWS CSA-A, applied to many a job post, and I was happy to be here! I have been in the job for about 6 months. I create cabling documentation for hardware adds and decoms, ServiceNow tickets, and some very light troubleshooting on the HMC. We do have access to company training sites, which I use in downtime and personal time, but it's not often put into practice. "That's not really in the job scope", is the viewpoint.
The highlight of my day is always troubleshooting connectivity issues for CHPIDs/Devices. This position doesn't require much time on the command line though. I'd like to delve further into network and cloud infrastructure, as I am working toward my Network+, and eventually my AWS CSA-P. So I'd like some input into what I might do to keep learning, growing, leaning into the Network side of things. Anyone who's been in the same position, what did you focus on learning to develop along a similar path? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- For IBM-MAIN subscribe / signoff / archive access instructions, send email to [email protected] with the message: INFO IBM-MAIN
