Yes, that's my understanding as well. In particular the Generation 1 DS8884 (283x-980) that was Generally Available only in 2016 and for a couple weeks in 2015 will reach End of Service on December 31, 2022. IBM announced the Generation 2 DS8884 (283x-984) on November 2, 2016 (IBM U.S. Announcement Letters 116-097 through -100).
