Adding to what Dave stated, I originally opened a request for ISPF to provide
custom language highlighting approximately 15 years ago.
When I started using SlickEdit, they turned around my request for FlowAsm
support in 2 weeks.

Subject: Slickedit now supports FLOWASM syntax highlighting for HLASM
EXTERNAL EMAIL
FYI, we recently worked with SlickEdit to implement FLOWASM support for HLASM
and it works very well. We also wrote some tooling to kick of builds over ssh
from the SE GUI.
There is very little chance of ISPF every supporting custom language syntax
highlighting so if you desire colors and use structured programming macros you
should check it out.
Au contraire gentlemen. In FILE967 on your CBTTape dial, you will find
edit highlighting for ACS, CarlA, FLOWASM, FORTRAN, Go, Java,
JavaScript, JSON, Kotlin, Perl, PHP, Python, Ruby, SAS, Shell,
SQL,TypeScript, and XMLASCII. This is part of CUCI, the CBT Usermods
Collection for ISPF.
I delivered FLOWASM highlighting in July of 2020, blessed by no other
than Ed Jaffe himself. You should try it out and let me know if you
have any issues, I will fix them.
BTW, this product is free and I support the @#$% out of it.
