The Systems Programmer position will be responsible for all systems programming for an in-house IBM z196 and ensure the z196 processing meets the Development, Test and Support requirements of the System z Engineering group. This position will report to the Senior Manager Software Services. With general supervision, install, and configure HW and SW systems primarily on the z196 machine to ensure the reliability and availability of System z machines and services. More specific roles and responsibilities include: * Configure and install z/OS, z/VSE, z/VM and Linux Operating Systems on System z * Create and manage multiple LPARS on System z * Manage DASD and tape resources * Configure and install databases, compilers, infrastructure software, tools, utilities, etc. * Assure regular backup/recovery and a DR plan * Configure and install job accounting, job performance software to monitor usage, system performance and provide capacity planning * Drive efficiency and ease of use for the System z users * Work with partners (IBM, etc.), evaluate vendors and products to assure our System z machines have the most appropriate software and efficient configuration * Assist System z users to get their systems programming tasks complete * Define and document best practices for our System z Systems Programming so our System z users can provide enough key functions themselves to assure continued availability of the z196 machine in case the Systems Programmer is unavailable QUALIFICATIONS, KEY SKILLS * 4 year BS and 4-6 years related work experience * Proven record of competence and achievement * Expert knowledge in IBM System z Systems Programming - z/OS, z/VM, Linux, JCL, TSO/ISPF, SMPE, OMVS, compilers, communication networks, program products, WLM, JES, DASD, DB2 installation * Excellent problem solving skills * Enthusiasm to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment while collaborating effectively with the corporate IT group and the System z Engineering group * Passionate, energetic, intellectually curious, good communicator, open minded * Good judgment, creative, team player, good interpersonal skills This Software Engineer position will be responsible to play a significant role within a System z (IBM mainframe) Engineering Support group. With general supervision analyze, model, design and develop maintenance to correct problems in Syncsort's mainframe products. This position will report to a Director of Support and Services.
