Except for zFS, for which the access method reblocks to accommodate
the values in the DCB or JCL.  I find that admirable behavior and felt,
far earlier than OMVS, that it be supported for all filesystems.

But QSAM largely spares the programmer the chore of dealing with blocks.

Where's QPAM that we've needed forever?
