It is not a big issue, but

a) the alias's in my .profile get lost after doing a "su"

b) I like to see a different command prompt to remind me 
I'm still in su mode:
/home/user8 ---> su -  
/home/root ===>              

c) the environment (paths, etc) for running in su mode may be
different.   Admin utilities may not have permissions to run outside
of su, but why have them in your path if you aren't going to run them.

Someone pm'd me with a solution, so it is possible...
