What are the properties of those short-cuts?

Next time, turn off your automatic updates and turn ON any notifications of
installation attempts.
Look carefully at your 'add-ons' in Internet Explorer 7/8/9/10 and disable all
of them.
Turn off all 'pop-ups', 'cookies' and all those annoying nasties.
Activate your antivirus sofware so no auto-install is taking place.
You need to check your installed programs and UNINSTALL everyone you don't
recognize.

When you download something, check the WHOLE web-page, like Adobe, where some
unneeded nasties are also downloaded when you're not careful.

Then, on win 7 there are those desktop gadgets, check them and get rid of those
you don't recognize them.

Mind you, I personally have the absolute minimum software installed on my
work's laptop. If want to have 'funny' software, I will do that on one of my
home computers. ;-D

If you're having Linux, Firefox, etc, perhaps you're not so exposed, but then I
don't that software combination... ;-D

HTH!
