Alter if we use something from Lord of the Rings, One CISIZE to rule them all.
So I believe that when the SMF Address space starts at IPL time it uses the CISIZE for all MANx files. That is probably why it cannot be changed without an IPL. Can you stop and start the SMF Address space and change them without an IPL? I am not sure about that answer. I think that there is a control block in MVS that holds the CISIZE and the IPL will reset it. But you might want to ask IBM that question. Can you stop/start the SMF address space and get the blksize reset to the new version. Of course if that worked, you would need to dump all of your MANx files before the cycle and accept some loss of SMF data.
