Where do we look, besides in our collective memory, to find the definitive answer? I Googled for "IBM PTF" and "programming temporary fix" and got 4.13 Megahits, whereas "IBM PTF" and "product temporary fix" yielded only 1.54 kilohits. Did IBM ever define this elusive term in a glossary? I would look in my SMP reference book, but I haven't had one at my fingertips for over 30 years. My recollection is "programming", and that was even before I discovered the almost 3,000 to one ratio favoring my memory.
