Unfortunately none of the approaches appear to be viable for us. Many of our files are VSAM and cannot use LM processing. I did find one possibility on the CBT tape called CDSCB that looked like it would work. I found that it works perfectly for VSAM and non-VSAM but won't work for multi-volume files. Using the control blocks for multivolume files to update the VTOC on a single volume just doesn't work. As for a program product - I am sure there are some that do this but it doesn't make sense to get it for a one time deal. It looks like my technique of using a VTOC list to generate IDCAMS PRINT commands for 1 record may be the best for this one time event. It will fail for allocated files but they should already have an updated referrenced date. It will also run for a long time on 20,000 data sets. If anyone has any new ideas I would love to hear them. Again, I thank all of you for your responses.
