Ok, let me rephrase the question: Is IRD LPAR Weight Management still used?
How do you use it? Do you use it in combination with Definded Capacity or Group Capacity Limits and how? Kees. Hello, We have 2 z196's and therefore the AWLC pricing structure. We have a couple of other tools in the z196 toolbox, which I am investigating. I have studied a lot of information about them and I think I know what I need to know, but have still 1 question. =Defined capacity/group capacity: we implemented group capacity limits. After some time experimenting with the weight values, it works well. =Hiperdispatch: just turn it on, we will get small benefits on our 1 book z196's but I found no cons. =IRD: -Vary CPU: has been taken over by hiperdispatch. -DCM: is not important, we have plenty of channel capacity. -I/O priority queing: turn it on, if it won't help it won't hurt either. -LPAR Weight Management: this seems beneficial, I think we need it if we move CICS and IMS to their own LPARs, to continue WLM taking resources from unimportant batch and give it to CICS by then moving resources from the batch LPAR to the CICS and IMS LPARs. However, here IRD seems to clash with our Group Capacity and the implications are not clear. The docs mention "As WLM is responsible for both WLM LPAR Weight Management and soft-capping, it will be aware when an LP is being soft-capped, and will not make any further adjustments to the weight of the LP until the soft-cap is removed." This seems reasonable if the LPAR is soft capped because of a Defined Capacity on the LPAR. However if the LPAR is soft capped because of the Group Capacity, I see no problem in continuing to manage LPAR Weights, redistributing the Group Capacity among the LPARs to help CICS in favor of batch. Any opinions on this? Thanks, Kees. ******************************************************** For information, services and offers, please visit our web site: http://www.klm.com.
