o Compression is unnecessary.

o I believe the directory is indexed, improving search performance.

Or, z/OS UNIX (USS) files in a USS directory?  For the same two
advantages, plus:

o A comfortably larger namespace, eliminating the need for
  recondite compaction of the time stamp.
