Another one of those message formats that appears to Thunderbird as
"garbage". I can read it fine on the ibm-main online archive, where is
shows Ituriel's readable message followed by the ibm-main trailer lines,
but it must be arriving in a format that ibm-main doesn't fully
understand, as its re-broadcast seems to have Ituriel's message encoded
as base64, followed by the ibm-main trailer lines, also encoded as a
separate base64 block but with no message heading structure appropriate
to the sending of two base64 blocks. I gather some Email clients may
tolerate this, but Thunderbird does not and just displays the base64
encoded data.

With Firefox 12.0 I see it garbled on the LISTSERV at:

In my experience, Joel, it's often a question of -your- (that is, each
recipient's) personal settings at the list server. If you query your settings,
look at the header options you have. If you have anything other than FULLHDR
you may find some messages that don't have enough header info to allow your
client (Thunderbird) to process the message properly.

I know about the FULLHDR option and did have problems with that many years back. Did a list QUERY just be be sure I didn't somehow lose that option, and confirmed I still have FULLHDR on. This appears to be something else. On my received Email, all the usual initial message headers appear to be there (which isn't the case without FULLHDR), but it's as if the message is being sent as a multi-part MIME message but with all the internal MIME headers around the parts missing. I vaguely remember reading at one time that the list server didn't support MIME and multi-part formats. If that is true and this is what is being sent to the list in the problem cases, that might be the cause and perhaps an issue with the senders Email options.

Ituriel's latest 9 May @1234 and @1248 postings do show up as garbled for me on the LISTSERV archive also. I must have been looking at the 8 May posting on the archive instead, which is OK. It looks like the only posts with the problem are replies to previous postings and that his initial post that started the thread came through clean. Perhaps that is significant. The only other thing I see unusual is that Ituriel's company adds a VERY lengthy appended legal disclaimer, which contains a several html tags in a context where html is not appropriate.
