My co-Systems Programmer here, provided an ICETOOL SMF report of deleted
datasets. In this report it shows that several datasets were deleted by
DFSMShsm, but 99% of the deleted datasets were valid, i. e. - dropped off
GDG, expiration date met and dataset was migrated to ML1. My problem is
that 2 of the datasets should NOT have been deleted. The only common factor
between the 2 files; old data created back in 2009 and it has not been been
updated since then.

I did install a PATCH to DFSMShsm (it's been backed out) that allowed
DFSMShsm to delete datasets without a backup:

PATCH /* Override the requirement that SMS */
  .MCVT.+431 BITS(......1.) /* managed datasets have a backup */
/* copy before they can be expired. */

Could that have caused the problem that I had?

Thanks in advance for any help that you provide...
