You've been lucky until now.

Such historical questions rapidly become unproductive.  More useful,
what protocol was used?  What alternatives are available?

If your correspondent replies with a glassy stare, "Protocol?  I just sent
the file", ask to talk to someone who knows what he's doing.

This is among the reasons IBM support urges customers to use AMATERSE.
(Wouldn't it be nice if AMATERSE reported a checksum in SYSPRINT?
Likewise, wouldn't it be nice if common transfer protocols reported
checksums at both sending and receiving ends?)
