The
implementation team should have provided scripts for creating r/w ckpts and
deleting them. In addition, after the checkpoints are created you have to
run scripts in each VTE to unmount the R/O file systems and mount the
R/W checkpoint file systems ("SNAPs") if you want to do any testing
that writes to scratch tapes. The VTE scripts just update the fstab and
shutdown / restart the software in the VTE. One of my clients has
2 DLms, 4 VTEs per DLm and about 1PB of storage per DLm.
At least this is how it is typically done. I have heard of some variations.
It's actually pretty slick. I love working in a tapeless environment these
days. No more waiting for HSM ML2 recalls, report archive recalls, etc.
