Dave Andrews responded to my post of 2012-03-02 relating the problems of Microsoft cloud software with the comment "Yes, but IBM should know better" I agree that IBM should know better, but Microsoft should know better, as well. I related previously a problem with Windows file timestamps between DST and non-DST which Microsoft has refused to fix.

My heartburn with IBM is related to their inabililty to provide an external time standard facility for Z machines without an exhorbitant price. Since I am unable to keep up with the current market, I don't know what the current prices are, but when I was a gladiator in the Z- arena, we had serious difficulties with time differences between our Z machine and our 'NIX boxes which used an external time reference. Our management refused to acquire the IBM facility because of the $30k price. My Mac machine uses an external time reference without a $30K price tag. I can even get a wrist watch with an external time reference in the $100 price range.
