Hi Folks,
CBT Tape File 830 contains Xephon MVS articles dating from July 1987
thru December 1996. There are about 900 articles here. These were
originally obtained (probably) by download from an archive of the
www.xephon.com website using the Wayback Machine at www.archive.org
(done by Eugene Vogt). Eugene's original file, as he submitted it to
me, is CBT File 814, and is ASCII. As you may (or may not) have heard,
most of the Xephon articles were turned over to www.cbttape.org for
support, by Bob Thomas, who received the publication rights from Xephon,
which is now (to my knowledge) out of business. Xephon magazines are
not being published any more.
I created CBT File 830 from CBT File 814 by converting the ASCII to
EBCDIC and by fixing many characters, which did not translate properly.
My effort is admittedly not perfect, but its intent was to make the
content easier to use in MVS, and to eliminate assembly errors as much
as possible, and so forth. This is an ongoing effort, and that is why I
want to make you aware of it. I would also appreciate your help.
If you ever tried to do a BULK download from the Wayback machine,
you probably have seen that some files have been truncated. I found one
of these files in File 830 (member CB2E846D) and I did a SINGLE download
of that file from the Wayback machine (from an April 1997 version of
www.xephon.com). The SINGLE download of the file (called M094A06) was
complete, and when I compared it to the file on File 830 after
translating to EBCDIC, I saw that all the partial lines were correct as
well. So I fixed that member, and put File 830 on the Updates page of
www.cbttape.org.
So I am asking you (in general), that if you try and use a member on
CBT File 830, and you see it is not complete, or if it has errors,
please inform me of that fact, so I can try to fix it. Or please send
me your own fix. If you did a SINGLE download from the Wayback machine
to fix it, please let me know that also. I would like to make this
collection as perfect as possible, to be able to be used "out of the
box", with as few corrections needed as possible.
All the best of everything to you and yours...........
Sam Golob
