The discussion about the mainframe hardware only covers up to the z990. The
maternal definitely needs to be updated.
Needs? Well, this is free product, so I think one has a choice take it or leave
it. No place for complaints. ;-)
And of course the course is basic one, so z990 is enough similar to newer
models. It has multiple CSSes, books, OSA-ICC, spanned channels. IMHO the new
features are not important for *beginners*.
BTW: It's hard to update materials without any occasion or impulse, just because
new version of product arrived or new features were added.
I'm trying to do it with my materials, but it's not only matter of update. If
you add more and more descriptions the course could become overloaded. Usually I
review the materials after I got course (class) or order, so I know it will be
used soon. That's the best impulse.
Yes. But one also has to update materials, and create new
courses, in order to be ready to teach when the request
comes.
I make it a point to keep my courses as up to date as
possible. So z/OS 1.12, HLASM 1.6, COBOL 4.2, and so on,
are the levels my materials are at.
It does get harder in the face of no requests to teach,
however. I have written over a dozen courses that have
never been taught, and it is, as you note, hard to get
the impetus to keep them current. But I do. That's the
job. And that's why we make the big bucks. :-)
