Sorry, but until Peter (or whoever) gets the manuals changed, I'll stick
with the manuals' descriptions.
E.g., from z/OS 1.12 MVS Init. And Tuning Guide:
" 1.6 Improving Module Fetch Performance With LLA
You can improve the performance of module fetching on your system by
allowing library lookaside (LLA) to manage your production load
libraries. LLA reduces the amount of I/O needed to locate and fetch
modules from DASD storage. "
And in topic 1.6.2, same manual:
" When determining which data sets LLA is to manage, try to limit these
choices to production load libraries that are rarely changed. Because
LLA manages LNKLST libraries by default, you need only determine which
non-LNKLST libraries LLA is to manage."
IOW, at least through z/OS 1.12, LLA is not just for the linklist.
A bookshelf search for "linklist lookaside" and variants thereof yields:
