I am going through this now. There is a single mode option (If I remember correctly), but results in a shorter length. The 9µ core is pretty much standard for 50µ single or multimode. The difference is cladding and protective wrap. 62.5µ is a bit bigger, orange, and used almost exclusively for ESCON. Tons of stuff on the web; I found most of it via Google.
