For Syncsort VSCORET defined how much TOTAL memory it could use. VSCORE set the amount below the line it can use. VSCORET includes the VSCORE amount.
Example: VSCORE=384K,VSCORET=50M 50M = 51200K Syncsort would use 384K below the line (24-bit storage) and 51200K-384K or 50816K above the line (31-bit storage) In either case, the real frames backing it can be 64-bit frames, with the exception of 1 or two frames that have to be backed with non-64-bit frames. This was used to over-ride the installed VSCORET default, normally 6M. It was helpful for what was then large sorts. With the advent of the global sort monitor it is no longer needed, except in the rarest of cases. Christopher Y. We have some members in a control card library that are used in batch jobs as $ORTPARM input for programs using an internal SORT. These control card members contain an apparently obsolete SORT parameter named VSCORET. A typical specification might be coded as "VSCORET=100M". Does anyone here remember what this parameter used to mean, or could you point me to any old documentation somewhere on the net that would describe its purpose? I am just curious what it may have originally been used for. TIA for any info you can provide.
