Guys, I also had this problem and after some time looking for the problem and solutions, I managed to fix it by doing what Lekensteyn said in a post: **
$ sudo update-alternatives --remove-all gl_conf $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-current If it fails, then $ sudo apt-get install --reinstal nvidia-current I didn't even need to reinstall the nvidia-current. Just by doing those two first lines i fixed my desktop. Hope this is useful for you.
