Hi, I had similar issues with acpi_call on my machine (m14x). I was able to power on/off the card ok until a reboot. After reboot the card was MIA in BIOS, Windows device manager, and Linux pci list. In my case, completely powering down the notebook, waiting a few seconds, then restarting the system restored the card's availability.
It seems when doing a quick 'reboot' with the Nvidia card powered down, the system BIOS does not restore the card to its' default up state, and the BIOS/OS doesn't register the card. Perhaps it is best to power-up the card before a reboot or shutdown. I am going to expirement more when time permits.
