My apologies for forwarding this mail without my rebuttal of the line taken in the mail. I wanted to write a reply to it and point out as to how the life has changed in adverse direction for Muslim women, after the rise of Fundamentalism, which is the outcome of US policies, which promoted Salafi version of Islam and promoted the rise of AL Qaeda amongst other things. (Pl refer to comprehensive accounts of Mahmud Mamdani) . This is quite embarrassing for me. It was a slip. I wanted to write a reply to it. I understand that most of the obscurantism and oppression is due to the political forces who want to control the oil in the region. The detailed mechanics has been outlined in several books and essays. I began writing and gave the top caption, Religion or Politics? Then I forgot the whole context and forwarded it.
