In a multilayered society like India, rapes continue because of patriarchy's myopia that views cases of sexual violence in binaries of crime and punishment. It is this that results in moral policing in the garb of preventive measures and simplistic solutions. Crimes of gender violence will only stop when they are seen in conjunction with mainstream issues and each strand of the fabric of Indian society is held accountable for it.
