The forthcoming General elections are a big challenge to secular democratic
movement. The projection of Modi and the upswing of AAP have created a
complex situation. How do we ensure that the Modi led BJP is kept off the
seat of power? The negative point in the whole campaign is the attitude of
left which equates BJP with Congress. One has to know that BJP is the
political wing of RSS and should not be equated with any other party as
such. We need to consolidate anti BJP-Modi votes. To confront the challenge
for saving democratic ethos from the march of fascist politics, two major
meetings are taking place in Delhi. One is by JAVAB on 20th February. It
aims to identify nearly 30-40 electoral constituencies where we can focus
and try to tilt the balance in favor of less communal forces. The second
one is by PADS on 27th Feb and it has a broader agenda of outlining various
measures and initiatives, which we should take up before elections,
leafleting, producing pamphlets, literature for activists, intervention in
social media, producing small hard hitting films for mass circulation
amongst others.
All India Secular Forum has strongly condemned the attack on Pakistani Sufi
band by Shiv Sena vandals in Mumbai. We also carry the reports of programs
conducted by our forum during last month. This month also saw the naked
march of revengeful designs of the Gujarat Government. It went on to file
the FIRs against Teesta Setalvad and Javed Anand amongst others, with the
aim of harassing them. This took place after the metropolitan Court'
judgment did not punish Modi and Gujarat government and the path is now
open for Teesta her team to approach the higher courts.
The Caravan interview of Swami Aseemanand, saying that RSS Chief was in
know of all the plans of terror acts reconfirms the earlier investigations
by ATS Chief Hemant Karkare and others due to which the culprits,
differently associated with RSS are currently in jail and Charges have been
framed against Swami Aseemanand.
In resources section don't miss the film review, Shahid, an adaptation from
the life of Shahid Azami, who was taking up the cases of those who were
falsely accused in acts of terror.
