Film: The heart of a murderer

*--------------------------------*

*From the Editor’s Desk*

The national politics has gone into a spin with the victory of AAP party in
Delhi. The calculation so far has been that RSS-BJP-Modi will try to
capture power by projecting the efficient-non corruptible image of Modi.
Social activists who have ben trying to expose the corruption scandals in
Gujarat have not been covered by the media, so his image remains untaineted
so far. The real threat to the fascist take over of the country by RSS
comes from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which seems to have captured the
imaginaition of the large sections of people. Of course media, currently,
is playing a very dominating role in shaping the popular perceptions. Which
direction AAp will shape, what policies it will take and how it will come
up to preserve the secular-democratic values of Indian Constitution remains
to be seen. How it can take care of the deeper sections of the society,
battered by the present system is a big question mark, which time alone
will answer. While diverse sections of society are *gaga* over the victory
of AAP, it is also likely to shape the contry’s election outcome is also
sure, but can it address the deeper social concerns remains to be seen.

The All India Secular Forum is committed to oppose the tide of rising
fascist grip through the programs for social awareness, Peace Yatras,
leaflet distribution, preparation of pamphlets; hodling of regional
meetings amongst others, in the forthcoming general elections. The
Hyderabad chapter of forum is actively pursuing this; it has called several
meetings on the theme and is also planning to publish background material
for the same. Similar meetings are on at different places also.
Muzzafrangar violence victims are yet to get proper rehabilitation and
justice. We carry an appeal for donations for relief work for victims.
Khudai Khitmatgar, as pursuing its work of unitintg the communities through
youth camps and yatras; we are carrying two reports on that. Yugal Kishore
Sharan Shastri has also been instrumental in promoting peace through his
yatras, taken out regularly. We carry an excerpt of impression from an
interesting interview of Narendra Modi by Ashish Nandy, who writes, “for
the first time, I had met a textbook case of a fascist and a prospective
killer, perhaps even a future mass murderer. The very fact that he has
wormed his way to the post of the chief minister of Gujarat tells you
something about our political process and the trajectory our democracy has
traversed in the last fifty years.”

In resources section the Fascism special issue of the Hindi magazine should
not be missed.

Warm Wishes for the *New Year*.
