RIOTS IN BODOLAND AND THEIR FALLOUT LECTURE CUM DISCUSSION
1 SEPTEMBER 2012, 3 PM Vinoba Gyan Mandir, B-190, University Marg, Bapu Nagar, Opposite Prakritik Chikitsalay, Jaipur Speaker: Neelabh Mishra, Editor, Hindi Outlook Chair: Prof. Rajiv Gupta Dear friend, PUCL, Rajasthan is organising a lecture cum discussion on "the riots in Bodoland and their fallout" on 1 September 2012. As you are aware for the last 40 days serious clashes have been taking place between the Bodos and Muslims leaving more than 97 people dead, about a lakh people displaced along with property of several lakhs of people damaged In this same period we also witnessed a process of attacks and threats on people from the north eastern part of the country in cities like Pune, Bangalore and other parts of India resulting in several lakhs of north easterners fleeing their work place and home from different parts of the country and heading to the north eastern states. This tragedy is being played out with an extremely high pitched politics by several parties including many whose agenda is hate. For many of us living in north India, we don't even care about the North East. Not even 5% of our time and energy goes into examining the problems of that region. However this time, if we will not engage with what is happening in the north east and to the north easterners in the rest of India, this may come back home to roost with connected violence in our own cities. What is it that is happening in Assam ? and what is it that we can do sitting in Jaipur? In order to address these questions the PUCL is organising a lecture cum discussion on 1 September 2012 at3PM atVinoba Gyan Mandir, B-190, University Marg, Bapu Nagar, Opposite Prakritik Chikitsalay. The speaker will be Neelabh Mishra,Editor, Hindi Outlook and Prof Rajiv Gupta will chair the meeting. Please do come.
