Subject: Invitation to a screening
To:
SAFAI KARAMCHARI ANDOLAN
invites you to
witness safai karamcharis from across India declare their liberation from
the inhuman practice of manual scavenging
Government officials across the country claim manual scavenging does not
exist. And so it continues to exist. Join us on Monday, 20 December, to see
the truth for yourself, to counter our national denial about the continuing
prevalence of the practice of human beings lifting the excreta of other
human beings.
This will be the first screening of the film
Marching Towards Freedom
by Gopal Menon
The government has failed to live up to its promise of eradicating manual
scavenging, first made by an Act of Parliament in 1993. But we the people of
the safai karamchari community have been leaving the practice on our own

You cannot build anything on the foundations of caste. You cannot build up a
nation, you cannot build up a morality. Anything that you will build on the
foundations of caste will crack and will never be a whole.
