We take great pleasure in inviting you to be a participant in a *Training
Program on Rights and Responsibilities of Human Rights Defenders* *at CSI
RETREAT CENTRE, Near CMS College, Chalukunnu, KOTTAYAM on 27th & 28th ,
March 2010*.
We are envisaging as participants, a wide variety of Human Rights Defenders
covered under the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, drawn from a
very broad platform of organizations, media, movements, trade unions,
professions and sometimes also political parties working on human rights and
a human rights perspective.
We also want to cover very strong coalitions or campaigns which are fighting
for the realization of a variety of Socio-Economic and Cultural Rights in
addition to Civil and Political Rights in this day to day work.
The *outcome expected *of the Program *is* a *Human Rights Defender*, a
focal point in his/her area of operation for a national platform of human
rights defenders that we are envisaging, *who is well versed in knowledge of
the general situation of Human Rights Defenders in the country, well versed
in provisions of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Defenders, well versed
in the major developments of understanding of the mandate by the UN Special
Rapporteur on Human Rights Defenders etc.*
*In our state the workshop is being conducted at on the 27th & 28th March,
2010 at Kottayam (for the participants of Ernakulam, Kottayam, Idukki,
Alapuzha, Pathanamthitta, Kollam and Trivandrum districts)* and on the 24th
& 25th April , 2010 at Kozhikode. (For the participants of Thrissur,
Palakkad,Malapuram,Kozhikode,Wayandu, Kannur and Kasergod)
During the Training some time will also be spent on introducing you to
mechanisms of the National Human Rights Institutions/State Human Rights
Institutions so that *you / your organizations would also agree to serve as
monitors of these institutions and their performances* from their respective
States. This *is an additional role that we will expect from you*.
We request you also to send nominations to participate in this workshop with
the persons’ email id / mobile phone number / postal address, with a brief
note on their activity. Please note that *we are looking at having at least
50 % of women in this training*.

with you towards a National Platform on Human Rights Defenders in this
country,
*it will be our pleasure to meet your travel expenses by on train or bus to
the training venue, provided evidence of travel (tickets) are submitted*
