** *National Forum of Forest People and Forest Workers(NFFPFW) condemns killing & attack upon tribals and peasants at Narayanpatna, Orissa* The brutal attack by police and para-military forces on innocent villagers at Narayanapatna, Orissa and the deliberate killing of two tribal leaders once again bares the true face of the Indian State. The incident one again proves how casually the Indian state can betray its own constutution and make a mockery of the peoples rights it is supposed to safeguard. It also proves that the state only looks after the land-grabbers and tyrants like the feudal landlords and big mining corporations. The Narayanpatna is not an isolated atrocity. In various parts of the country including Orissa,Chattisgarh and West Bengal the state is out for blood;in the name of controlling insurgency and Maoism,it is ensuring that all forms of social and political dissent are stifled ruthlessly. What is more shocking is that the most vulnerable sections of our society are bearing the brunt of the state oppression, and in the forest areas of India organized gangs of goons and murderers in security forces' uniforms are running amok, killing people at will, raping women and destroying villages. In Narayanpatna, people were protesting against shocking incidents of rape and physical assault on hapless women by the security forces. They were shot at when they were demanding simple justice from the state. NFFPFW condemns the firing at Narayanpatna and demands that all armed and paramilitary police are immediately withdrawn from the area. It also strongly condemns the Salwa Judum operation happening in the name of so called Peace Committees in entire Koraput region, and demands that murder cases are started against the local OIC and all other culprits. It further demands that an impartial enquiry headed by a serving judge of Orissa High Court is immediately ordered. NFFPFW expresses complete solidarity with the peasant and tribal struggles in Narayanpatana and other areas of Orissa. *Sanjay Basu Mullick, Pushpa Toppo, Munnilal, Shiba Sunwar, Kanta Marathe* *Conveners of NFFPFW * "Protect Livelihoods - Protect Resources" National Forum of Forest People and Forest Workers (NFFPFW) B-137 Dayanand Colony, 1st Floor Lajpat Nagar IV New Delhi - 110024 Ph: 011-26486931 E mail: [email protected] -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "ACTIVISM NEWS NETWORK" group.
