[The following is specific to the InstallShield version of Hugs 98
on Win32; if you use a different platform or installation method,
you need read no further!]
Several of us here at OGI have tried the InstallShield version
of Hugs 98, and some (but not all) have had problems with it.
In particular, I fixed the problem on my Windows NT box by
replacing the hugs.exe from the InstallShield package with the
hugs.exe in win32exes.zip. The same fix worked when somebody
else had problems with the InstallShield package on a Windows 95
machine. (Just unzip win32exes.zip in your Hugs98 directory.)
On my Windows NT machine, at least, it had nothing to do with
"Program Files" as I had installed to c:\Hugs98. In general,
however, I would recommend picking an installation directory
without spaces in it; those spaces can confuse some editors,
which you might otherwise invoke using the :e or :f commands.
For the time being, I don't know why these problems have occurred,
and I don't know why they only show up on some machines. I guess
it's all the subject of an "ongoing investigation" ...
| I'm a bit confused about the installation instructions. Am I supposed (as
| seems to me to be implied by the instructions on the hugs page) to first
| unzip Hugs98-May1999.zip, or is hugs98.exe actually self contained?
The instructions were confusing, so I rewrote them in a minor way this
morning, which I hope will clarify the situation. In particular, the
InstallShield version of Hugs is supposed to be self-contained.
All the best,
Mark
