For speed testing purposes I append two panorama projects with each having 1351 images and ..... control points. Since the images need about 12 GB, I replaced all but two images with a black dummy image. The panorama pano_preoptimized_without_weights.pto is pre-optimized and all weights are 1 (I created it before I introduced my "weights for control points" feature). When pressing the (geometrical) "optimize" button, 8 optimization iterations are performed (on my computer in about 55 seconds). This panorama is very problematic, e.g. when pressing the GL button you see that there are some unconnected images. After optimization I was far from getting acceptable stitching results.
I created the second panorama pano_with_weights_and_optimized.pto by assigning weights to CPs and do other things in order to get acceptable results. In this pano are still some unconnected images, but I can delete them since in them is only sky and I have no chance to align them. I must do some post-processing after stitching, e.g. with GIMP. In this pano (pano_with_weights_and_optimized.pto) you cannot test the speed of the optimizer since it is already optimized. With both panoramas you can see that adding just one CP takes a long time (8 seconds on my Windows system). It would be fine to optimize the code to make it faster. If you want to test this, go to the CP editor and select the images 181 and 269 since all other images are replaced by black dummy images.
