OK, so Greg,
my panorama was made with a Nikon camera as a test. You can see I have no 
zenith photographed.
Stitched with Hugin and "reworked" with Gimp. There are no special metadata 
in this file.
I uploaded this image 6000×3000 to my photos.google folder.
Then with my iPhone and the Street View app I put it online. In the app you 
can set the position on the map and heading.

However, in Google Streetview I usually see a small blue dot where someone 
took a picture. I can not see mine on the map.
