These tabs are still there. They are only shown when the optimizer is set 
to custom. (Otherwise they are hidden, because in these circumstances you 
can't change anything on these tabs.)

Concerning the empty spaces:There is not always so much empty space, it 
depends on the monitor resolution. Not everybody is using such high 
resolution. 
(Currently there are 30 parameters which can be edited. So much space is 
not available on the photos tab.)
As an alternative you can also edit the parameters in the 
optimizer/photometric optimizer tab in place.

• The 2012 version, the preview 'GL' window had something very useful :

This feature is still there: Activate "Identify" mode on the Preview tab in 
the OpenGL preview window. (You can activate it also by holding the command 
key and move the mouse.)
