Background and Objectives
The International Colloquium on Theoretical Aspects of Computing
(ICTAC) was founded in 2004. The aim of the colloquium is to bring
together practitioners and researchers from academia, industry and
government to present research results, and exchange experience, ideas,
and solutions for their problems in theoretical aspects of computing.
Beyond these scholarly goals, another main purpose of the conference
is to promote cooperation in research and education between
participants and their institutions, from developing and industrial
countries.
The event takes place every year. Each conference attracts between 50
and 100 participants from all over the world. We now invite proposals
from any group or institution wishing to host this event. The
priority is for the event to be located in a developing country. It
usually combines a regular three-day scientific conference with
related activities such as tutorials over another two-days and a
summer school over the previous week. Innovation in the format and
content is encouraged.
Proposals will be evaluated by the ICTAC steering committee.

Proposal Format and Submission
Proposals should be no more than four pages in length and should contain:
* Brief description of why the event is of interest to the proposer.
* Vision for the event, including its aims, the expected format and
scale.
* An estimation of expected attendance, based, for example, on
presence of a local community in the area and costs of travel to
various parts of the world and local expenses.
* A description of the relevant qualifications and experience of the
proposers, especially regarding conference organisation logistics.
* A description of the facilities that will be available for the
event and to support the organizers.
* The contact information of the proposed organising committee. Please,
note that the choice of a PC chair will be subject to later discussion
with the Steering Committee and should not be part of this proposal.

Runtime verification is concerned with the monitoring and analysis of
the runtime behaviour of software and hardware systems. Runtime
verification techniques are crucial for system correctness, reliability,
and robustness; they provide an additional level of rigor and
effectiveness compared to conventional testing, and are generally more
practical than exhaustive formal verification. Runtime verification can
be used prior to deployment, for testing, verification, and debugging
purposes, and after deployment for ensuring reliability, safety, and
security and for providing fault containment and recovery as well as
online system repair.
Topics of interest to the conference include, but are not limited to:
* specification languages
* monitor construction techniques
* program instrumentation
* logging, recording, and replay
* combination of static and dynamic analysis
* specification mining and machine learning over runtime traces
* monitoring techniques for concurrent and distributed systems
* runtime checking of privacy and security policies
* statistical model checking
* metrics and statistical information gathering
* program/system execution visualization
* fault localization, containment, recovery and repair
* dynamic type checking
Application areas of runtime verification include cyber-physical
systems, safety/mission-critical systems, enterprise and systems
software, autonomous and reactive control systems, health management and
diagnosis systems, and system security and privacy.
We welcome contributions exploring the combination of runtime
verification techniques with machine learning and static analysis.
Whilst these are highlight topics, papers falling into these categories
will not be treated differently from other contributions.

RV 2018 will be held November 10-13 in Limassol, Cyprus. RV 2018 will
feature a tutorial day (November 10), and three conference days
(November 11-13).

Papers as well as tutorial proposals will follow the following timeline

GENERAL INFORMATION ON SUBMISSIONS
----------
All accepted papers (including short papers) will appear in the
conference proceedings in an LNCS volume. More precisely, the
proceedings will appear within the formal methods subline of LNCS.
Submitted papers must use the LNCS/Springer style detailed here:

Papers must be original work and not be submitted for publication
elsewhere. Papers must be written in English and submitted
electronically (in PDF format) using the EasyChair submission page here:
https://easychair.org/conferences/?conf=rv18
The page limitations mentioned below include all text and figures, but
exclude references. Additional details omitted due to space limitations
may be included in a clearly marked appendix, that will be reviewed at
the discretion of reviewers, but not included in the proceedings.
At least one author of each accepted paper must attend RV 2018 for
presentation.
PAPER SUBMISSIONS
----------
There are two categories of papers which can be submitted: regular or
short papers. Papers in each category will be reviewed by at least 3
members of the Program Committee.
* Regular Papers (up to 15 pages, not including references) should
present original unpublished results. We welcome theoretical papers,
system papers, papers describing domain-specific variants of RV, and
case studies on runtime verification.
* Short Papers (up to 6 pages, not including references) may present
novel but not necessarily thoroughly worked out ideas, for example
emerging runtime verification techniques and applications, or techniques
and applications that establish relationships between runtime
verification and other domains.
The Program Committee of RV 2018 will give a best paper award, and a
selection of accepted regular papers will be invited to appear in a
special issue of the Springer Journal on Formal Methods in System Design.
RELATED EVENTS
----------
The RV conference also includes an RV tool contest as well as an
exhibition of industrial-strength runtime verification tools and
approaches. Separate calls for contribution to these events will be
issued soon.
